Supplementary Materials for “dynamics for Systems of Screw Dislocations”

چکیده
In Subsection 2.1 we have discussed uniqueness only in the special case in which f is discontinuous across a (d − 1)-dimensional hypersurface. The case when two or more such (d− 1)-dimensional hypersurfaces meet is significantly more involved and can lead to non-uniqueness of solutions for Filippov systems (see, e.g., [16]). In our setting, this situation arises at points in the set Eint defined in (2.27). Indeed, in Theorem 2.20 we assumed that Z1 does not belong to the intersection of two hypersurfaces (see (2.27) and (2.28)). In this section we study fine cross-slip in the case in which Z1 belongs to Eint. For simplicity, we consider only the case in which only two hypersurfaces intersect at a point. See Figure 5.

Screw and edge dislocations in layered, complex oxides
Dislocations are a common type of defects that signifi cantly infl uence many mechanical phenomena such as plastic deformation, crystal growth, morphology, or diffusion of materials. Although dislocations have been well-studied for simple crystalline structures such as pure metals, semiconductors, ionic materials, and binary oxides, there is very limited knowledge on such defects in complex-lay...
متن کاملEVALUATION OFDISLOCATION STRUCTURE AND CRYSTALLITE SIZE IN WORN AL-SI ALLOY BY X-RAY DIFFRACTION
Abstract: powerful method for the characterization of microstructures of crystalline materials in terms of crystallite size anddislocation structures. In this paper the effect of the sliding on the microstructure of A356 in the as-cast and heattreated conditions are studied, The X-ray phase analysis shows that with increasing applied load, the dislocationdensity is increased, whereas the crysta...
متن کاملCalculating the Peierls energy and Peierls stress from atomistic simulations of screw dislocation dynamics: application to bcc tantalum
We introduce a novel approach to calculating the Peierls energy barrier (and Peierls stress) based on the analysis of the dislocation migration dynamics, which we apply to 1/2a〈111〉 screw dislocations in bcc Ta. To study the migration of screw dislocations we use molecular dynamics with a first principles based embedded-atom method force field for Ta. We first distinguish the atoms belonging to...
متن کاملImaging screw dislocations at atomic resolution by aberration-corrected electron optical sectioning
Screw dislocations play an important role in materials' mechanical, electrical and optical properties. However, imaging the atomic displacements in screw dislocations remains challenging. Although advanced electron microscopy techniques have allowed atomic-scale characterization of edge dislocations from the conventional end-on view, for screw dislocations, the atoms are predominantly displaced...
متن کاملValidation of the Concurrent Atomistic-Continuum Method on Screw Dislocation/Stacking Fault Interactions
Dislocation/stacking fault interactions play an important role in the plastic deformation of metallic nanocrystals and polycrystals. These interactions have been explored in atomistic models, which are limited in scale length by high computational cost. In contrast, multiscale material modeling approaches have the potential to simulate the same systems at a fraction of the computational cost. I...
